Story
Proposed 10 Nos. solar power station of 10 MW Solar Photo voltaic projects in Puttalam District, Sri Lanka, generating approximately 23 GWH of energy into the grid by each 10 Mw project. Super grade solar cells will be used with a Plant Factor average of 22%. Feed-in Tariff at US$ 0.101/kWh in the first eight years, US$ 0.055/kWh in the second seven years, and US$ 0.41 in the last five years. The primary goal is to generate green electricity in keeping with the Government's goal of promoting the private sector participation in the generation of Renewable Energy and considering the benefits of the Clean Development Mechanism program. The Government of Sri Lanka in its economic policy has announced, the development of Renewable energy as one of its key activities towards poverty alleviation and ensuring economic growth. The importance of Solar Energy as a renewable and substantial resource has been particularly impressed upon time and again. The present world’s trend concerns energy security and sustainable development, hence the role of renewable energy in that has become ever more significant. Sri Lanka has no alternative other than going for sustainable natural resource management by tapping huge renewable energy sources to meet future demand and environmental sustainability. The carbon benefit component of a solar power project is derived from the fact that each such project replaces the need for a similar-sized petroleum-based generator. The Energy Policy of the country clearly states that at least 70% of the power generation should be achieved through renewable sources by the year 2030. Sri Lanka is a tropical country rich with natural resources and has great potential to develop nonconventional renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Therefore this is the time to actively pursue these in order to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.Rewards
